Research Report

Suggested Citation:
Kowshik, Raghu R. and Ryuichi Kitamura (1995) Competing Risk Duration Models: Review and Issues. Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Davis, Research Report UCD-ITS-RR-95-01

This report expands the discussion of issues identified in Kowshik and Kitamura (1994), relating to the formulation of duration models for vehicle transactions. Detailed reviews are provided of literature dealing with the issues of heterogeneity, time-varying covariates, fully-parametric and semi-parametric specifications, and estimation, for econometric duration models. A discussion of competing risk theory as it relates to formulation of a vehicle transactions model is also provided.

Of particular importance is the formulation of dependent competing-risk models to represent the vehicle transaction behavior of multi-vehicle households.
