This report describes the evaluation plan for the Yosemite Area Traveler Information (YATI) system. The objectives of this system, which is to be fully operational by May of 1995, are to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, enhance mobility, and preserve/promote tourism in and around Yosemite National Park by providing visitors with a variety of services. Included in the report is a schedule of tasks to be conducted in the evaluation.

The YATI system will offer users access to current road and traffic conditions, parking and lodging/camping availability, and public transit and tourist activity information through changeable message signs, highway advisory radio, and information kiosks. Each of these services will be evaluated based on the criteria of the quality, demand, and cost of the service.

A variety of data collection activities will be used to evaluate each service and their collective impact on existing Park conditions. Surveys of system users will reveal the perceived accuracy, usefulness, and accessibility of information. Field measurements (of vehicles, pedestrians, transit usage, parking lots) will reveal the demand for services and the impact on the Park. The report concludes by presenting the data collection plan for Memorial Day Weekend, 1994.
