The Yosemite Area Traveller Information System is to provide travellers within the greater Yosemite region with real-time information regarding current weather and travel conditions as well as the status of recreation, lodging, and camping facilities. Goals of project are to reduce congestion, improve air quality, enhance mobility and preserve and promote tourism. In order to meet these goals, an Evaluation Plan has been developed that specifically links goals to measures of effectiveness and methods to obtain the measures. This report represents the initial assessment of travel conditions in and around the park prior to YATI implementation. A variety of data sources are used in this initial assessment including: surveys of auto travellers; manual traffic counts and delays at park entrances conducted by the U.C. Davis team; and, analysis of traffic counts provided by National Park Service Colorado Office.
