INTRODUCTION
The Yosemite Area Traveller Information (YATI) System, which is to be operational by May of 1995, is to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, enhance mobility, and preserve/promote tourism in and around Yosemite National Park by providing visitors with a variety of services. The YATI system will offer users access to current road and traffic conditions, parking and lodging/camping availability, and public transit and tourist activity information through changeable message signs (CMS, highway advisory radio (HAR), information kiosks, computer bulletin boards, and touch-tone telephone. The YATI System is to be evaluated with respect to user and system satisfaction, improvement in Park conditions, and cost. The literature review plays an important role in the evaluation.

PURPOSE OF THE LITERATURE REVIEW
The literature review summarizes all relevant literature related to Yosemite travel and visitation characteristics, and Park transportation plans and alternatives, and other applicable rural Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS). The review has assisted in refining the evaluation plan for the YATI System, and assuring that appropriate evaluation guidelines are used for this rural ATIS field operational test.

The reader is given a glimpse of Yosemite National Park from a transportation perspective. Both current transportation problems and proposed solutions are identified. The results of previous Park studies are presented and the transferability of their methodologies are examined.
