The 1997 Asilomar Transportation and Energy Conference focused primarily on technological opportunities in the light duty highway sector, and policies to integrate those technologies to create a more sustainable transportation system. The conference addressed: (1) the historical effectiveness of emissions and fuels policies and regulations in the United States; (2) trends in emissions and fuel use (and highway fatalities); and (3) strategies to deal with new concerns such as global warming and fine particulates.
